Isabella Innis

Isabella Innis is a contemporary painter born in Nashville, Tennessee. She holds a BFA from Westmont College and has trained at The Art Students League of New York. Isabella has an intuitive practice, using lyrical strokes, charcoal markings, and dripping forms to create her abstract compositions. The movement and whimsy in her work reflect her upbringing living in different parts of the world in a family of musicians.

In her Los Angeles studio, Innis approaches her canvases with a blend of spontaneity and contemplation. She often begins with sketches, using personal photographs or images sourced online as references, but allows the composition to evolve organically. Her technique involves leaving sections of the canvas unfinished, with visible pencil sketches and loose brushstrokes, creating a raw and unpolished aesthetic. This intentional imperfection invites viewers to engage deeply, uncovering layers of meaning within the abstract forms.

For Gathered At The Well, Innis presents ‘Desert Lotus’, a 24 x 30-inch piece rendered in oil, oil stick, and graphite on linen. The painting embodies her signature blend of abstract forms and vivid colors, evoking themes of resilience and growth in challenging landscapes. With its soft gradients and layered textures, Desert Lotus reflects Innis’s exploration of memory and transformation within personal and collective narratives.

Isabella Innis is preparing for her upcoming solo show at Reynolds Gallery in Virginia this March. This exhibition will further showcase her exploration of abstract expression, featuring a new series of works inspired by her travels and the intersections of cultural identity and memory.
